The tango between the United states and Iran has been nothing but bitter all the way. It sounds bitter even to us who just get to hear a watered down version in the news so can you imagine the actual bitterness that is present in the Iran-United states relations. It seems that they must have caught the India-Pakistan bug. The relations between the two Asian neighbours was so bitter at one time that it would have given the word 'bitter' take a closer look at itself. But they have since then progressed to toleration to acceptance and now to friendship. The road to peace is never smooth and one can always count on it to be rocky at the least. Both the United states and Iran should take a leaf out of the India-Pakistan relations and learn from it.
If I were to take a guess, I would say that the bitterness with Iran started with the Iranian revolution and the hostage crisis. Since then, relations between the two have taken quite a beating. The Americans in general have a very warped vision of Iran, not surprising considering that most of the Americans think that Cuba is only good for cigars. The relations between India and Pakistan , although bitter to start off with, has normalised as a result of the shared heritage between them. No matter that they have come to blows in the past or may do so in the future, but this shared heritage that has bonded them is here to stay. So they both have very wisely decided to build on that, both literally and figuratively.
Where as the Americans and the Iranians do not have much of a shared heritage to build upon and what is more they do not consider one other as humans so the question of bonds and heritage is kind of moot here. Recently the Stanford university had invited president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the guest speaker only to insult him publicly which says volumes about American manners. It is no wonder that the Europeans and the rest of the world do not think much of the American manners,to invite a foreign dignitary and to insult him like that is unheard of in almost all countries all over the world except for the Untied states. Either way whether they choose to improve their manners or not, the Untied states needs to resolve its issues with Iran in a peaceful and Democratic manner. That is the way of the world and we most certainly do not need another war!

Iraq takes on the Kurds!

With Turkey threatening to attack Iraq on the premise that it is sheltering Turkish rebel groups, Iraq has finally decided to take some action. Iraq well knows that another war in the region could well push the entire Middle east into the middle ages and has decided to curtail the movements of the Kurdish rebels that live in Iraq.

The Kurds are a fiercely independent group and as such would not tolerate anyone holding the reins over them for long. What is more, Iraqi's by and large respect the Kurds whom they consider not as a Kurd but rather as an Iraqi itself. The Kurds are well entrenched in Iraq and as such they are Iraqi citizens to the boot. So any unilateral action against the Kurd areas of Iraq by any government or any country for that matter will be perceived as an act of invasion and will not be tolerated by the Iraqi's.

To say that a war will ensue if Turkey decides to attack the Kurdish areas of Iraq is a gross understatement. Both the United states and Iraq well know this and as such are taking these steps so as to prevent Turkey from attacking. However will Turkey listen with Jingoism running high in Turkey and the calls for revenge getting louder by the day?

Boy confesses to starting the California wildfire!

The California wildfire that had destroyed so many homes and had killed about 14 or so people was started by a kid playing with the matchbox. The police have sent the boy home and an investigation is pending. It seems that the 'inferno' was aa creation of man rather than nature or a short circuit as it was originally suspected to be.
We have all been told by our parents not to plaY with matches since the toodler age and yet this has happened.

The inferno in question has destroyed 2,100 homes and blackened 809 square miles from Los Angeles to the Mexican border last week. Seven deaths were blamed directly on the fires, six evacuees died of natural causes and one person died of a fall. All of this devastation, it seems can be laid at the doorstep of one small boy. The question is whether s mere 'sorry' can really make up for the tragic loss of life that these group of wildfires had wrought on the suhshine state. We even saw the terminator man pitching in to help the californian residents. Terror mastermind gets away?

What is puzzling me is that since Circumstantial evidence was relied upon to find the other accused guilty then why was not the same Circumstantial evidence used to find the main ringleader guilty as well?
Frankly I think that this whole aspect of Circumstantial evidence should have been used against Rabei Osman as well. But his lawyers had argued in the courtroom that the translation of the taped conversation was all wrong and that Rabei Osman was not the ringleader behind the Madrid bomb blasts. Either way, the Judge accepted the ringleader's legal Repertoire and now he gets to walk away from the Madrid case!

Turkey wants the Kurds to be handed over to them on a platter!

Turkey has demanded that Iraq extradite the 150 and odd Kurdistan peoples party leaders and top officials to Turkey right away. Common sense does suggest that Turkey will torture and finish off those leaders in an attempt to put an end to this rebel group. The Kurds have always had a violent history with Turkey in the past and nothing in Turkey's recent action suggest that they will allow a fair process of law to take place if the rebels were indeed extradited to Turkey.

Turkey has not given any guarantees that these rebels will be treated fairly and as such, the extradition of any such rebels to Turkey will be tantamount to giving them the death sentence before which they will be tortured. The Red Cross and Amnesty international should take serious note of Turkey's demand and make sure that such an extradition does not take place. Iraq needs the good will of the world at large and if it were to do this, then Iraq would have bought peace at the cost of blood of its own Iraqi citizens.
