Iran: The report that never was!

Iran seems to be more in the news these days and not for all the right reasons. The latest round in the Iran-U.S war of the meek seems to have ended in the favor of Iran. The leakage of the intelligence report telling one and all that Iran seems to have halted its nuclear weapons program way back in 2003 is not all that surprising to those who know the Iranians well. For those who do know the Iranians well, know that they have this inherent tactic for survival and that they will never take the foolhardy path of Saddam Hussein. They well know that to take that path will only lead to total and utter destruction on all sides and that it is indeed better to live and let live. On that thought, did you know that the ancient school of philosophy can be traced back to Iran and that it is in Iran that it had its roots and not in Greece as many think so!

This intelligence report has come at a time that the United states is going hammer and tongs at getting even more sanctions against Iran approved by the Security council. For one, this report does make things a little bit difficult for the United states to push for even more tougher sanctions. And anyone can see that to most Americans today, Iran and its hardliners still represent a threat not because of their religion or the fact that Iran thinks that Israel does not exist, but for the fact that many Americans were taken hostage during the Iranian revolution. What irks the Americans to this day is the fact that many Americans were taken hostage in the American embassy in Teheran. This baggage is one of the main reasons why America today finds it so difficult to even get along with Iran. The past is in the past and that is easier said than done, but it is high time that both these countries realise that there is nothing to be gained by holding onto past grudges. They should really take a page from the India-Pakistan book, the whole world knows the legendary rivalry between those two and today, they are not against each other, at least not the way that they were in the 1970's. They have matured and come a long way since then.

One thing is for sure, the other countries can breath a sigh of relief as they know that the United states would not be pressing that hard for sanctions this time around and that the Nuclear watchdog and mr.ElBaradei can go about their job and make sure that Iran has indeed complied with the IAEA rules and that Iran is only involved in fuel enrichment for peaceful purposes!

More bomb blasts in Pakistan?

Is the peace and security destabilising in Pakistan? Is General Musharraf aware of the world's perception of his government and his presidency? The recent suicide bomb blasts at an army camp could not have come at a even worse time for Musharraf. As things stand, the Supreme court is mulling over his presidency and may soon issue a decision that will shake all the politico's in Pakistan.
Coupled with the recent bomb blasts in Pakistan, the release of the controversial book,
Deception: Pakistan, the United States and the Global Nuclear Weapons Conspiracy where it is claimed that Musharraf had his finger on the nuclear button and wanted to nuke India, this is only causing the whole world to turn up the spotlight on the general and Pakistan. When a person can be so irresponsible to almost start a nuclear war, can the world really trust this man? That is the question that a lot of the Indians, Americans and the whole world at large are asking themselves today. With the general elections due in Pakistan, is it any wonder that the general is left with few friends and the ones that he has are increasingly distancing themselves away from him and his 'gung ho' policies?

The Nuclear headache that is not going away!

India and her prime minister dr. Manmohan singh are having to face a major Nuclear headache with the honeymoon being over and all that. Since most of the allies had okayed the India- U.S nuke deal, Manmohan Singh is confounded at the turnaround by his allies in the cabinet. What is troubling Manmohan singh and the ruling congress party is the fact that the Left parties, who are providing the essential support to the government from outside the government, are not backing down from their anti US stance.
As things stand, a series of meetings on this very issue are scheduled to take place later on, the purpose being to resolve issues and to project a common agenda to the people. But as the Left parties have indicated in public that they are not interested in anything to do with the United states, the ruling Congress party will have to cross the 'thorny bridge' very soon. The Congress party has to decide whether to go for the Nuke deal in which case the Left parties will withdraw support to the government and the government will collapse. Or the Congress party can decide to bury the Nuke deal in which case it will lose the respect that it has in the International arena and the people of India will see it as a political party with no backbone what so ever and therefore that decision will impact on the party in the General elections. So it is indeed a very thorny bridge that Manmohan singh will have to cross and he has to do it very soon!

Iran hardens its stance in the Nuclear issue!

Iran has hardened its stance in the Nuclear issue with having appointed a hardliner as the new chief nuclear negotiator. The president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accepted the resignation of the last nuclear negotiator and has appointed a hardliner in his place. Things may start to get a bit sticky as the Untied states increases pressure on Iran by way of more sanctions. At the moment, Russia who has invested a lot in Iran is currently objecting to any further sanctions on Iran. But this will change as soon as Russia sees that Iran is not serious of backing off the 'Nuclear quest' and that all this talk has been more of a way of buying time than accomplishing anything concrete. Things are going to come to a boil sooner or later regarding Iran. Bush has certainly not helped matters along by linking a Nuclear Iran with World war 3!

Bush calls for World war 3 ?!?

After presenting the Dalai lama with the highest civilian honor that the United states can bestow on a foreigner, President Bush made a call for World war 3. Sounds shocking, does it not? One would think that George Bush would have at least learned by now to exercise some sense of control over his mouth. But that day has not come of yet. At a recent press conference, Bush told the reporters that if the other countries wanted to avoid World war 3, then they would have to make sure that Iran does not get the knowledge to build Nuclear weapons. He went on further to add that the Iranian head is a person who is determined to destroy the Israeli's and that if the other countries fail to prevent Iran from acquiring that 'Nuclear know how' then it may very well result in World war 3.
Such irresponsible statements from the most powerful head of state on this planet is not what we need. As things stand, we already have one war too many on our plates and now he is talking of a Global war?? How seriously should we take him at his word. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have to say that since it is George bush who said it, we will all have to take him very very seriously. And coming so soon after the meeting with the Dalai Lama, it is all in very bad taste. George Bush is a person who loves a fight and it seems that he is all determined to end his presidency with a big 'blow out', the kind that this world has not seen as of yet! God save us from megalomaniacs and pretenders to the throne!

U.S asks India to clarify its relation with Iran!

As it is the U.S nuclear deal is fast pushing this country to mid term elections.and such statements as the one where the United states has asked India to clarify its position regarding Iran is only like setting the cat amongst the pigeons.such statements are only adding fuel to the communist bloc and this will only increase the attacks on the current incumbent government.
I am sure that the United states would like to have this deal all finalised at the very earliest.if that is their agenda, then they should stop making such statements which will only end up irritating the Communists all the more and thereby may result in the real danger of this deal getting held up once and for all!

The Nuclear debate!

At the moment, preparations are being made for the great nuclear debate that is due to be held in the Indian Parliament very soon.this debate is not really the question of whether India should back out of a deal that has already been finalised and Inked.but rather it is to discuss all the parameters of the deal and its implications for India in the long run.
The coalition government in the center supported by the Left parties have issued an ultimatum of sorts.they have asked the ruling congress party and the Prime Minister of India,to put the brakes on the operationalisation of the deal and to have a 'full' debate in the Parliament.to give the Left parties its due, they are not asking the Government to jettison the deal altogether, but rather to have a full fledged debate in the Parliament which is where the Opposition is currently sharpening their knives.
Truth be told, the next week is going to be one rocky week for the government and may well result in early Elections.but lets be optimistic!the government being forced into a corner will have no option but to go for a full debate and the Left parties have pretty much said that the government can go ahead with the deal but only with consensus and that is going to be a very hard consensus to get.well, with the elections in the U.S coming near and near,it seems that George Bush will have to wait for his idea to get the approval of the Indian parliamentarians!what must be galling for the Bush administration is that if this deal is delayed in the Indian Parliament, and goes through only 3 years later or so,it is the next U.S president who will get the credit and not George Bush.tough luck, george!

The Left Nukes the U.S - India nuclear deal!

Things are in an imbroglio here at the capital with the Left parties making their feelings of the India-U.S nuclear deal perfectly known.they have effectively rejected the deal in its present format.that's not a surprise to anyone.everyone knows that the Left parties only embrace communist deals and any deals made with any country that is not communist in any form will not be acceptable to them.lets fact it,the Left parties are unduly worried by what they see,a growing distance between Russia and India and a close relationship forming between India and the United States.it is high time that these parties realise that communism and its various ideals and principles belong solely in the past and that there is no place for them in the present.what is more worrying for the Left parties is that the deal seems as though that the United States is building up India as a way of countering China!so what?the Left parties have to stop seeing everything through the communist prism and see that in modern India, communism no longer has a place and India is democratic, may become capitalistic but will never ever become communistic in nature.the modern Indians have a very high sense of self and they will not go back to the communist and socialist principles that gave rise to these very parties.that is all in the past!
Regarding the deal,it is too late for anyone to object.and even if they do so,there is not much that they or anyone else can do.the deal itself is an art of work taking two contradictory principles and binding it into a single contract.kudos to Burns and Manmohan singh for doing that.the bottom line is that the deal has already been inked and it is now contractually and legally binding on India to follow suit for the next 40 years or so.in India, the constitution makes it amply clear that the current government or any government do not need the approval of the parliament for inking any deal and any deal that is signed by the current government is legally binding on the country and in this case for 40 years.what is more there is no exit clause for India in the contract.the deal is done and the sooner we all realise and get a move on the better off we all will be.of course, this deal may realise in the Congress government losing its power, but so what, that is politics.now the U.S has to approach its congress to ratify the 123 agreement and in all probability that will be done asap.the Left parties may cry foul.but as per the constitution of India, the power rests solely with the government and not with the Parliament and rightly so.in a country of coalition politics,if the power were to rest with the Parliament, then we will never get anything done.
There is an exit strategy of sorts for India to get out of the deal.all it has to do is to make a series of nuclear bomb tests and this will scupper the deal very effectively, the U.S will have no choice but to end the deal.personally i think that the deal is way too intrusive but in order to become emancipated energy wise,we need this deal more so now than ever before!

The India and the U.S tango!

With the nuclear bill now more sure than ever before the tango between the the worlds oldest and the largest democracies has surely began.the United States is now doing its best to wedge open the door to the indian markets for the american companies all in the name of cooperation and the United States for its part is now looking into the tariffs it currently imposes on Indian imports to the United States mainland.so if you are in the United States, you should not be all that surprised if the prices of the curry leaves were to go down.
But the long term goals of the United States is all to clear, with the nuclear deal now almost a certainity, the United States is doing all it can to contain not just Iran[that is a perk rather than a goal] but rather to make sure that not only does it become a very close allay of the next superpower but at the sme time it is making sure that it contains China effectively.almost all thinktanks agree that within the next decade or so,there will be two new superpowers with huge economies far surparssing that of both Europe and the United States, they are both India and China.
the United States is okay with India being a superpower since it is a democracy but when it comes to China, that is a totally different cup of tea.
I am pretty sure that the chinese thinktanks would have come to the same comclusion that it is being contained slowly but effectively by the United States.which is why all of a sudden,China is acting hostile to India vis-a-vis the Indo-china border in Sikkim.just the day before yesterday, the chinese issued a statement of sorts warning the Indians to remove their bunkers or else...that tone itself should convey everything.it seems that the chinese must have got an advance copy of the 123 agreement before the public did and they were none to happy to see that India will become in effect a Nuclear power without all the legal trappings that being a part of the muclear powers club entails initself.of course,China would love to get coasy with India and make sure that the power and the reign that the UniteD States seems to enjoy the world over is brought to a screeching halt.the Russians would like that to happen for their own reasons.the future does hold some intresting times for us,but either way we look at it,the tango between India and the United States is turning into a quatret of sorts with all sorts of bed partners!

The nuclear deal may get inked sooner than later!

With things going the way it has been for both the United States and India, getting the Nuclear deal through had transformed from being in mutual interest to quite essential for the relationship between the world's oldest and the largest democracies.the current political government in India, the Congress may seem gung-ho on the Nuclear deal but to the Hoi-polloi of India's literate, they would have been extremely happy had this deal fallen through.as far as the literate citizens are concerned they regard this deal as a loss of sovereignty.to be fair, this deal is indeed highly intrusive so this opinion on their part is not exactly surprising.
But now that the deal is almost sure to get inked through, the question especially in the minds of George bush and Manmohan singh is,what next?although this deal may indeed be a highly intrusive deal,India should now concentrate on acquiring additional sources of fuel supplies and not solely depend on nuclear power in the future.what is more India should find some way of converting the huge amounts of thorium that it has and utilise that as nuclear fuel so as to insulate itself against any breakdown in the supply of nuclear fuel to its reactors.politics is cheap and dirty.you never know if the deal signed by the last government will be honored by the current one.after all,"there is no honor amongst......"

North Korea de-Fangs!

North Korea has shot down one of its main nuclear reactors, thus giving peace a change as well as the possibility of both Korea's merging into one.but of course thats too far into the future so lets see what happens.anyway for the present moment the chief U.S. nuclear envoy expressed optimism after a day of meetings Tuesday with his North Korean counterpart, saying no new obstacles to progress on disarmament have emerged following Pyongyang's shutdown of its sole operating reactor.
With Pyongyang taking such a move well for one thing Japan as well as South Korea can now rest a little bit easier.of course credit should also go to the Chinese without whom this would not have been possible.now all that remains to be seen is how far would
Pyongyang go to appease the Allied Forces as regards its nuclear arsenal.it is rumored that North Korea has already an operable nuclear bomb.well, now that Pyongyang has taken this step one can only hope that North Korea would continue the rest of the path to peace and prosperity!

All about Pax

Well it seems that Pax is the only thing in this world that is hard to maintain, from Africa to India to Iran to China.anyway you look at it it seems that half of the world's population is fighting with itself and the other half is just intrested in sitting on the sidelines to see what is happening.all is going down yet we cannot seem to help ourselves.so is all Pax just a dream to be.
can we truly have a peaceful world or is it just too much for the realpolitik to bring about??
