The United Nations threatens action over Darfur attacks!

The situation in Darfur is going from bad to worse these days just when we all thought that it cannot get any more worse than it already has. Now the Sudanese troops have taken to taking potshots at the U.N peacekeepers posted there to maintain peace and order.
It is one thing for the Sudan to feign ignorance over the attacks on the innocent civilians but totally another to say that they do not even know that the peacekeepers were attacked. It is one blatant lie that will not pass muster of any kind and it is high time that the Security council declared war on Sudan. Enough is enough, the whole world knows that the Sudanese government and the troops and the militias have one thing in their minds and that is none other than the total extermination of the refugees in Sudan. The Security council should take strong action regarding Darfur and halt the genocide that seems to be taking place in spite of the peace keepers that are posted there!

The Russian bear tightens its grip!

Putin may no longer be the president but as the prime minister he is busy consolidating his support and at the same time by picking out his successor, Dmitry Medvedev he has shown the world as to who is going to be real power in Russia. Russian politics from the time of Ivan the terrible has always been conducted behind an Iron curtain, that is the rest of the world only gets to hear of the deed much, much later.
The extent of Putin's power could be seen in the elections held recently in Kremlin. His opponents were given no quarter and everything was neatly arranged in such a way that there could be only one outcome in this election and that was the election of Putin as the prime minister of Russia.

Iran still very much a threat - U.S!

It seems that after all that was said and done, the United states still believes Iran to be very much threat and that they still believe in going ahead with the missile defense shield plans. The baggage of past relations is one that Henry Kissinger would probably understand the best of all of us, for none more than he would know how history can have this resounding effect on relations for decades to come.
Look at South Korea and North Korea, technically they are still supposed to be at war, and that was over 50 years ago, so record wise that may be the longest war that has ever been fought in the modern history of man, not counting the 100 years war. One can only hope that both Iran and the United states find some peaceful way of resolving their issues!

Iran: The report that never was!

Iran seems to be more in the news these days and not for all the right reasons. The latest round in the Iran-U.S war of the meek seems to have ended in the favor of Iran. The leakage of the intelligence report telling one and all that Iran seems to have halted its nuclear weapons program way back in 2003 is not all that surprising to those who know the Iranians well. For those who do know the Iranians well, know that they have this inherent tactic for survival and that they will never take the foolhardy path of Saddam Hussein. They well know that to take that path will only lead to total and utter destruction on all sides and that it is indeed better to live and let live. On that thought, did you know that the ancient school of philosophy can be traced back to Iran and that it is in Iran that it had its roots and not in Greece as many think so!

This intelligence report has come at a time that the United states is going hammer and tongs at getting even more sanctions against Iran approved by the Security council. For one, this report does make things a little bit difficult for the United states to push for even more tougher sanctions. And anyone can see that to most Americans today, Iran and its hardliners still represent a threat not because of their religion or the fact that Iran thinks that Israel does not exist, but for the fact that many Americans were taken hostage during the Iranian revolution. What irks the Americans to this day is the fact that many Americans were taken hostage in the American embassy in Teheran. This baggage is one of the main reasons why America today finds it so difficult to even get along with Iran. The past is in the past and that is easier said than done, but it is high time that both these countries realise that there is nothing to be gained by holding onto past grudges. They should really take a page from the India-Pakistan book, the whole world knows the legendary rivalry between those two and today, they are not against each other, at least not the way that they were in the 1970's. They have matured and come a long way since then.

One thing is for sure, the other countries can breath a sigh of relief as they know that the United states would not be pressing that hard for sanctions this time around and that the Nuclear watchdog and mr.ElBaradei can go about their job and make sure that Iran has indeed complied with the IAEA rules and that Iran is only involved in fuel enrichment for peaceful purposes!

Russia and China block the Iran sanctions!

This is not exactly a surprising news, is it? Both Russia and China have enormous economic capital invested in Tehran and they know that if the U.N were to apply any economic sanction of any kind on Iran, they both face huge losses as well as the loss of lucrative oil contracts.
This does bring into the question of the 'Multi polar' world versus that of the 'Unipolar' one. Is the United states right in waging an economic war on a single country and expecting all the other nations to follow its lead? Many people may have something very strong kin nature to say to the United states, especially with the way that its foreign policies are being run. The way it is going, it is only a matter of time before the United states sees that it has no friends whatsoever in the International community. Both Russia and China are totally against the imperialistic attitude of the United states. What is more they both together with India are trying to fashion up a multi polar world, one that does heed to the rules of the book. Where the Unites states is concerned, it has long since thrown the book out of the window along with Jimmy carter. The United states has made it clear that it has no intention of being a 'hall monitor' but instead plans to be the bully. And do you want to take an educated guess who is in its headlights, Iran, right in the center of this storm that is yet to blow!

Russian rocket takes the First Malaysian to space!

Russia space Inc is doing brisk business these days with having opened the boundaries of space to tourism.they have managed to give the phrase 'out of this world' a whole new flavor.Russia is offering to send people to space and the space station out there at the cost of a hefty price tag.and now Malaysia has paid the price tag so as to send the very first Malaysian to outer space.and the thing is that he is going to do this while he is fasting for the month of ramadan.
He has also made it clear that he will follow all the tenets of his religion even in outer spave but that may be easier said than done.either way all of Malaysia is right behind this guy and they are cheering him on.but the key question that i wanted to ask is that is this the right way to go about popularising outer space?is it right that we should now start commercialsing this as well?after all, space is one of the last boundaries that has not yet been fully explored by man.is it right that we should now bottle it and sell it off to the highest bidder?my 2 bits,i think that it is all wrong!

Myanmar security forces kills opposition dissident!

Things are not exactly cool in Myanmar right now especially as the people have got the news that one of the opposition dissidents seems to have been killed by the security forces during interrogation.this only bodes ill for the peace loving people of Myanmar.we have seen how the security people have attacked the unarmed Buddhist monks recently and this killing is only a manifestation of that.most of the World has rightly condemned what is going on in Myanmar right now.but the opinions of the Asian giants, the ones that really matter in Myanmar and the rest of east Asia, the opinions of both Indian and China has been rather muted.
What is more, both countries have been talking to each other and it seems that both the Asian giants as well as Russia will not only not back any moves to sanction Myanmar but will finalise their own policy as far as Myanmar goes.it is in this light that the soon to be held trilateral conference between India,China and Russia should be seen.all the three view Myanmar as their own neighbourhood and the west should well be aware that any move to recreate an Iraq like move will not just be countered with words but with military might of all of the three nations.by the way this is the second such trilateral conference between the three nations.it is not that all the three want the Military Junta to rule Myanmar,it is just that they want a peaceful resolution of matters and a stable handover of power to a democratically elected ruler.the end game is still on!

The India and the U.S tango!

With the nuclear bill now more sure than ever before the tango between the the worlds oldest and the largest democracies has surely began.the United States is now doing its best to wedge open the door to the indian markets for the american companies all in the name of cooperation and the United States for its part is now looking into the tariffs it currently imposes on Indian imports to the United States mainland.so if you are in the United States, you should not be all that surprised if the prices of the curry leaves were to go down.
But the long term goals of the United States is all to clear, with the nuclear deal now almost a certainity, the United States is doing all it can to contain not just Iran[that is a perk rather than a goal] but rather to make sure that not only does it become a very close allay of the next superpower but at the sme time it is making sure that it contains China effectively.almost all thinktanks agree that within the next decade or so,there will be two new superpowers with huge economies far surparssing that of both Europe and the United States, they are both India and China.
the United States is okay with India being a superpower since it is a democracy but when it comes to China, that is a totally different cup of tea.
I am pretty sure that the chinese thinktanks would have come to the same comclusion that it is being contained slowly but effectively by the United States.which is why all of a sudden,China is acting hostile to India vis-a-vis the Indo-china border in Sikkim.just the day before yesterday, the chinese issued a statement of sorts warning the Indians to remove their bunkers or else...that tone itself should convey everything.it seems that the chinese must have got an advance copy of the 123 agreement before the public did and they were none to happy to see that India will become in effect a Nuclear power without all the legal trappings that being a part of the muclear powers club entails initself.of course,China would love to get coasy with India and make sure that the power and the reign that the UniteD States seems to enjoy the world over is brought to a screeching halt.the Russians would like that to happen for their own reasons.the future does hold some intresting times for us,but either way we look at it,the tango between India and the United States is turning into a quatret of sorts with all sorts of bed partners!

Bush declares independence for Kosovo??

Well this has all the hallmarks of the coldwar era.the russian president does not like something and immediately as a way of increasing pressure on the russians, president Bush tightens the screws on them by declaring that independence should be granted to Kosovo.but that may not happen right away seeing that Russia would be in no mind to oblige the americans on this issue and take this with the fact that Kosovo terrorists have killed many number of innocent russian civilians.
Whats more, this may soon turn out into a prestige issue for the russian president Vladimir Putin with the elections not that far away in Russia.the russian people have very strong feeling where Kosovo is concerned and Serbia would in no way let its emotional heartland break away from it irrespective of any united nations ordinance on it.all in all russia may just up the ante by supporting Iran in its nuclear quest as well as making sure that the oil pipeline project that Iran has with pakistan and India goes through at all costs.all of the above are just surmises but it is also to highlight the way that events may turn out shortly in the near future.President Bush declared in Albania that enough was enough and that the united nations should recognize Kosovo as an independent republic.that has indeed set the ball rolling and now we all have to wait an see what Russia does back in return.the 'cold war' it seems, ladies and gentlemen,is not over!

All about Pax

Well it seems that Pax is the only thing in this world that is hard to maintain, from Africa to India to Iran to China.anyway you look at it it seems that half of the world's population is fighting with itself and the other half is just intrested in sitting on the sidelines to see what is happening.all is going down yet we cannot seem to help ourselves.so is all Pax just a dream to be.
can we truly have a peaceful world or is it just too much for the realpolitik to bring about??
