This is indeed a Christmas miracle and it truly is that in more ways than one. Can you imagine being on a plane and falling down thousands of miles and by sheer luck, you end up surviving. The fact is that she was hurt in the accident that killed all the others in her plane and by some chance she not only managed to survive the accident but also managed to remain alive for two days before the rescue workers reached her.
It just goes to show you how truly remarkable the human spirit is, it can endure untold hardship and yet, come out of it all on the top, breathing fine. Of course, the girl does not remember much and even if she did, she would be traumatised. Her recovery is going to take some time but she seems and sounds all fine, at least what they telecast on the news channels showed that. For her parents, it must seem like they have got a miracle on their hands, after all it is not every day that one manages to survive a fall from the clouds.

Sidr blasts away at Bangladesh!

Sidr the cyclone that hit Bangladesh, hit it very hard. The cyclone strengthened just before it made its landfall in Bangladesh. It was expected to hit the Orissa coastline but then it made a sudden turn and headed straight towards the Bangladesh coast. The cyclone was unexpected to be this severe and it literally blew Bangladesh off the map.
Take a look at the satellite image above and you can see for yourself the path of destruction that Sidr created when it landed in Bangladesh. Now Sidr, as the cyclone was named, has moved on to the Indian state of Assam. The destruction along the Bangladeshi coastline is enormous with many villages completely washed away. The red cross has estimated that Sidr must have caused at least 1000 fatalities this time around. The minute that the Cyclone landed in the Bangladeshi coast line, the sea overcame the land and pretty much took everything on it. The thing that one should remember is that Bangladesh is a low lying area with much of the land area below the sea level kind of like Holland. Whenever it rains, even so slightly,Bangladesh gets flooded. Now with rain accompanied with heavy to very heavy gusts of winds, you can imagine the impact that Sidr has had on Bangladesh. Many weather gurus had predicted that as the Global warming increases, the sub tropics will see unusual and destructive weather abnormalities like the Sidr. Maybe it is high time we did something with regard to Global warming and the next time a cyclone is on its way to meet us, lets all just run out of the front door.

The zany weather!
Of late, the weather has been anything but normal. It does not rain when it is supposed to, it starts to get freezing and cold when it is supposed to be pleasant and to top all this, we get to hear the news that weather is having a drastic effect on the artic ice pack. At this rate, soon there would hardly be any artic ice left over. Is this change a result ogfwarming and is there nothing we can do? Is the ice age approaching us now?

Hurricane Felix huffed and puffed!

With any hurricane comes the news of disasters and of people missing and Felix, true to form, has managed to do exactly that.with Felix,at least the people had a little time to batten down the doors.but in spite of all the precaution that was taken, the death toll has risen to about 40.but this is a category 5 storm,so such looses go with any hurricane in that category.but if the people had not been warned in advance what to expect from Felix, the toll would have been much higher!

Fire blazes across Greece!
It is sad to hear that nearly 50 people are dead as a result of these fires in Greece.the forests in Greece are totally dry as a result of this unusually hot summer and any small flame could spark the conflagration.that is what has happened.the weather has been acting up all over the world from snows in Argentina to rains in the mid-west.
Such unusual weather patterns are a symptom of a much bigger problem, which in my opinion is 'global warming'.anyway with such a dry forest all around,it only takes a very small spark to start the huge forest fire that Greece is facing right now.the problem gets compounded by people refusing to leave their homes.Greece is going through a trial by fire in more ways than one, indeed!

Hurricane Dean shows its colors!

Hurricane Dean has started showing off its true colors as it has started to plough through the Caribbeans!Dean has all the hallmarks of turning into a category 5 and soon at that.Caribbean has already been battered with heavy rain and flooding in many parts and Dean has come and wants to stay around for some time to come.
Already with winds near 150 mph, Dean left behind floods, debris and at least three deaths on the islands of St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica on Friday.and the news only goes from bad to worse as far as Dean is concerned.the First hurricane off the season,it is already getting quite a reputation and not of the nice kind at that.it seems to have set its sights on Yucatan Peninsula and the Gulf of Mexico which if its holds true to the direction given by the met,it will hit the Mexico coast sometime around monday.
With the weather going weird in many places around the world, some of the experts have warned that Hurricanes will only get bigger and bigger as time goes on and they have all attributed this to the global warming.whether that is true or not, only time will tell us!

The big freeze is heading your way!

Argentina witnessed its first major snowfall since 1918.they naturally cheered the event and everyone joined in a good old fashioned snowball fight.but many scientists all over the world are very worried with the way that the weather is acting up.they are afraid that the current crazy weather phenomenon is more or less a start of the next ice age.and going by research and facts, the ocean currents which deliver warm waters and warm weather to the northern regions of the earth has started slowing down.the scientists fear that once the ocean currents start to slow they will eventually stop.which would immediately put the northern hemisphere in the grip of a severe cold wave.the weather at my place is going nuts as well.of course it is not bad crazy but actually good crazy.although the weather here in chennai may be out of the ordinary many of the chennaites are actually enjoying a very pleasant summer with temperatures ranging around 20 celcius.
While normally the temps here in chennai would have been around 30 degrees or so.anyway the way that the weather is acting up of late,do not be all that surprised if you encounter a big freeze this winter especially if you happen to live in the northern hemisphere!either way, folks,we are all sure going to see some crazy action on the weather front!
