The United Nations threatens action over Darfur attacks!

The situation in Darfur is going from bad to worse these days just when we all thought that it cannot get any more worse than it already has. Now the Sudanese troops have taken to taking potshots at the U.N peacekeepers posted there to maintain peace and order.
It is one thing for the Sudan to feign ignorance over the attacks on the innocent civilians but totally another to say that they do not even know that the peacekeepers were attacked. It is one blatant lie that will not pass muster of any kind and it is high time that the Security council declared war on Sudan. Enough is enough, the whole world knows that the Sudanese government and the troops and the militias have one thing in their minds and that is none other than the total extermination of the refugees in Sudan. The Security council should take strong action regarding Darfur and halt the genocide that seems to be taking place in spite of the peace keepers that are posted there!

Iran: The report that never was!

Iran seems to be more in the news these days and not for all the right reasons. The latest round in the Iran-U.S war of the meek seems to have ended in the favor of Iran. The leakage of the intelligence report telling one and all that Iran seems to have halted its nuclear weapons program way back in 2003 is not all that surprising to those who know the Iranians well. For those who do know the Iranians well, know that they have this inherent tactic for survival and that they will never take the foolhardy path of Saddam Hussein. They well know that to take that path will only lead to total and utter destruction on all sides and that it is indeed better to live and let live. On that thought, did you know that the ancient school of philosophy can be traced back to Iran and that it is in Iran that it had its roots and not in Greece as many think so!

This intelligence report has come at a time that the United states is going hammer and tongs at getting even more sanctions against Iran approved by the Security council. For one, this report does make things a little bit difficult for the United states to push for even more tougher sanctions. And anyone can see that to most Americans today, Iran and its hardliners still represent a threat not because of their religion or the fact that Iran thinks that Israel does not exist, but for the fact that many Americans were taken hostage during the Iranian revolution. What irks the Americans to this day is the fact that many Americans were taken hostage in the American embassy in Teheran. This baggage is one of the main reasons why America today finds it so difficult to even get along with Iran. The past is in the past and that is easier said than done, but it is high time that both these countries realise that there is nothing to be gained by holding onto past grudges. They should really take a page from the India-Pakistan book, the whole world knows the legendary rivalry between those two and today, they are not against each other, at least not the way that they were in the 1970's. They have matured and come a long way since then.

One thing is for sure, the other countries can breath a sigh of relief as they know that the United states would not be pressing that hard for sanctions this time around and that the Nuclear watchdog and mr.ElBaradei can go about their job and make sure that Iran has indeed complied with the IAEA rules and that Iran is only involved in fuel enrichment for peaceful purposes!

Police planning to attack the refugees in Darfur!

Darfur has seen many a bloody battle of late between the police and armed militants on one side and the unarmed refugees on the other. It is indeed a shame that the United nations and the rest of the world is hesitating to take aggressive action when it is most needed at places like Darfur. Instead of worrying about Iran and Iraq and the rest of the Middle east, maybe it is high time not to think but to act as far as Darfur is concerned. The government in Sudan is playing the African union and the other leaders by asking for time while it undertakes continual elimination of the refugees in Darfur.

What makes this whole situation sad is that these people are kids, women and old men and as such they neither have the arms or the strength to fight the police and the armed militants at the same time. What is more the Police at Darfur often undertake raids into the refugee camps under one pretext or the other and what ensues is often cold blooded assault as well as murder of the unarmed refugees. Since the African union does not have the courage to step in and prevent this massacre then it is up to the United nations as well as to the other countries to do something about this!

George Bush to talk about the new Iraq Vision??

What a vision it has been for the rest of the world.this war was wrong to start off with.anyway now that Iraq is in the midst of the 'war on terror',with civilians and soldiers dying there day by day,is it any surprise to any of us that George Bush has a new vision on Iraq now?
But truth be told, there has to be some changes made to the current Iraq policy as it is now.especially with more deaths being reported from there day by day.and the U.S soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners certainly did not help matters any way whatsoever.so what can the new policy be all about?well, for one, total withdrawal out of the question as that would only result in Iraq getting into a civil war or worse into another 10 year war with Iran.but what the U.S can do now is to do some damage control and bring the United Nations into the picture and make the force that is currently based in Iraq more multinational and at the same time try to see what the Iraqi's really want.bottom line, every Iraqi man and woman, want peace and democracy but that should certainly not come at the price of terror!

The China-Taiwan question?

Is it fair for any large country to threaten its Small neighbour and tell that small country that it considers that country to be a part of its own.we,,what am i talking about?i am talking about the so called 'one china' policy.this policy is so flawed in so many levels that i would not even know where to start.China considers Taiwan to be a part of mainland China itself.and it has made its feelings known to the entire world and has even managed to successfully block Taiwan's bid to become a part of the United nations family.but that has not stopped Taiwan from striving for independence.the world as a whole should stand tall with Taiwan and make it known that the world will not stand for any bullying of any sort.it is high time that China learnt that Taiwan will never be a part of mainland China,no matter how desperately it wants that to happen.

Hurricane Felix huffed and puffed!

With any hurricane comes the news of disasters and of people missing and Felix, true to form, has managed to do exactly that.with Felix,at least the people had a little time to batten down the doors.but in spite of all the precaution that was taken, the death toll has risen to about 40.but this is a category 5 storm,so such looses go with any hurricane in that category.but if the people had not been warned in advance what to expect from Felix, the toll would have been much higher!

Intelligence report says Iraq needs a new government!

The U.S intelligence report pretty much says that the current government is not managing the situation as it should have and it must do much more to bring peace and stability to Iraq and i for one have to whole hearted agree with the report.the report goes on to say that maybe it is time to change the current government especially as the current government only seems to increase the sectarian strife that is already bleeding Iraq dry day by day.
There has to be a solution and very soon at that.especially if the U.S forces what to withdraw, the must make sure that whatever govenrnment is there,it is able to enforce law and order and is able to guarantee some sort of peace and stability for its citizens!but with the way that things are going on there, that still remains a pipe dream.people in power are much more interested in getting revenge rather than establishing peace and eradicating sectarianism!

Iraq withdrawl a mistake??

As much as i hate to agree with president George Bush,i have to say that in this,he is indeed right.leaving Iraq like that will be nothing short of disaster not to say that it will push the country into a civil war which may soon lead to a full fledged war between Iraq,Iran and Turkey.
So for the moment,a withdrawal out of Iraq is out of the question at least until an effective peace and stability has bee secured.regarding peace, well, that still seems to be a pipe dream.but who knows, maybe if the United Nations was to take on a more full fledged role in this, perhaps then,we may[operative word is may] consider a withdrawal of the American troops out of Iraq.but until then,Bush is right!

Sierra Leone-Test of fire!

Sierra Leone is heading for the polls today which will see if the conflict ravaged country can pick up the pieces and hold a democratic election.this country more than any other country has seen so many conflicts that if one were to talk about wars and Sierra Leone, one would have to ask 'which war'.most of these conflicts have been caused by the diamonds.the diamonds from Sierra Leone are known as 'blood diamonds' for a very good reason and they are banned from being sold world over.
Now that the U.N has taken charge, one can only hope that this will see the end of the conflicts and that the flag of democracy and reign of peace and prosperity will truly reign in Sierra Leone.it is sad that a country had to suffer so much in so little time but when you are at the bottom there is only one way to go and that's up all the way.Seven candidates are vying for the nation's top post, with 69-year-old Vice President Solomon Berewa the main front-runner. President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, 75, cannot run again because of term limits.
It is nice to see democracy work and to see all of them equally participating.good luck,Sierra Leone, you deserve it and we all wish you and all your citizens well!

South Korean hostage crisis!

The south Korean hostage crisis seems to get murkier day by day with the Afghanistan officials running here and there but in the end ,not accomplishing much by any one's standards.already one of the hostages has been shot in cold blood by the erstwhile Taliban militants.according to certain police sources, the hostage in question was sick and could not walk therefore he was shot by the militants and get this, right on his birthday.his aging mother who was in south Korea at that time was waiting for a phone call from her son so that she could wish him happy birthday.
that really takes the cake and et all.with the allied forces also present in Afghanistan, couldn't they track these militants down and eradicate them once and for all.what about the women hostages, could they not be released.as for the demands of the militants, well one of them wants Taliban prisoners to be released, the other wants money while the other militants are not sure about what they want and already there have been arguments and small skirmishes amongst themselves, according to certain well placed sources in the Taliban.shouldn't this be the time when the government forces should attack them, especially when the militants are disorganised and confused??

North Korea de-Fangs!

North Korea has shot down one of its main nuclear reactors, thus giving peace a change as well as the possibility of both Korea's merging into one.but of course thats too far into the future so lets see what happens.anyway for the present moment the chief U.S. nuclear envoy expressed optimism after a day of meetings Tuesday with his North Korean counterpart, saying no new obstacles to progress on disarmament have emerged following Pyongyang's shutdown of its sole operating reactor.
With Pyongyang taking such a move well for one thing Japan as well as South Korea can now rest a little bit easier.of course credit should also go to the Chinese without whom this would not have been possible.now all that remains to be seen is how far would
Pyongyang go to appease the Allied Forces as regards its nuclear arsenal.it is rumored that North Korea has already an operable nuclear bomb.well, now that Pyongyang has taken this step one can only hope that North Korea would continue the rest of the path to peace and prosperity!

Bush says NO to Iraq pullout!

George Bush has threatened to Veto any legislation that may be passed by both the houses.so the war that nobody wants goes on.this is a war whose reasons were found on the most flimsiest of reasons.and even as i write this the War against the Iraqi's still rage on.with hundreds dying every month is it any surprising that the fate of the entire nation is being decided thousands of miles away in the American heartland.i do not in any form or matter sympathise with the militants and do believe that they should be dealt with most severely.but the fact of the matter is that many innocents are being caught in the crossfire or the militants A.K.A terrorists are using them as human Shields.when will the blood letting stop.
I have to say that any American withdrawal under the present circumstances will be deadly for the Iraqi's and a full fledged civil war will break out.as much as we may love to disagree with Bush but in this case we would have to agree with him.the war should have never happened but it did.so lets not dwell on whether it should or should not have happened and let us face facts.
one:an American withdrawal without any allied presence in Iraq would allow Iran and the militants to foment a civil war.
two:if America does indeed want to withdraw its troops it should do only after the United nation forces take their place
three:the United nation forces are at the moment understaffed and their weapons outdated,so before any substitution can take place this must be corrected
four:Iran should be made to understand in very clear terms that any interference in Iraq affairs will not be tolerated by the world at large.
five:the middle east as a whole should understand that a stable Iraq is in their best interests.
six:the militants/subversives,terrorists should all be hunted down and dealt with right away so that security and peace for the Iraqi's is assured.
no troop withdrawal can take place before all of the above points are dealt with.otherwise it will be disastrous for Iraq and its citizens!

Palestine civil war!

The dream of a single palestine state receded further with the militant Hamas taking over Gaza.the Fatah then started to consolidate themselves in the west bank.the way the situation is right now,a clash between the Hamas and the Fatah seems more likely than ever especially with the west restoring aid and backing the current fatah led government in the west bank.
It is indeed a shame that a movement led by Yasser arafat should have come to this.but i do have to point out that with the militant Hamas out of the government the west finds the current government of palestine much more palatable to deal with.so lets hope that the Middle east peace process is renewed ASAP.

7 children killed by the U.S forces!

Afghanistan of late seems to have come under attack by a wave of suicide bombers.Afghanistan rightly pointed the finger at Pakistan which it accuses of trying to destabilise its government.but in the midst of all this the U.S led forces decided to take on the insurgents only to kill 7 innocent children.it is the young and the old who are suffering the most be it Iraq or Afghanistan.the militants use them as human shields and the end result is that now '7 kids are dead'.
First of all both the United Nations as well as the International Red cross should both step in and make sure that such practises of human shields are not permitted.what is wrong with these people that they have to resort to such practises.
What makes all this worse is the fact that the U.S forces seems to have no second thoughts on attacking such human shields.now 7 kids are dead so what is the U.S going to tell their parents, that they are sorry?would just an apology be okay?will it bring the kids back to life?why should the life of a U.S soldier be much more valued than that of a kid?it is high time that both the United nations and the Red cross stepped in both Afghanistan and Iraq if not to administer the countries at least to ensure that both the old and the young of both of these nations have at least a little semblance of safety!by the way the dead boys are aged between 10 to 16 years.the blood of the young and the old is running on the ground.will the world answer to that??

Iraqi bridges blow up!

If things were not hot enough in Iraq now the insurgents[a neat way of calling the terrorists] are busy blowing up the bridges leading to Baghdad.the insurgents are determined to cripple the current government by attacking the common man on the street as well as any infrastructure that the common man may use.and they are achieving that.
As for the government, they are not really able to do anything much except offer common platitudes for the dead people's family.things are getting out of hand and the insurgents are getting more and more bolder in their attacks.after all they did manage to shoot a rocket very near the building when Ban-Ki-Moon,the U.N secretary general was giving his speech.for sure, that's one speech that the U.N secretary general is not gonna forget in a hurry.this bridge was bombed by a suicide bomber and this time three U.S.soldiers were killed.what is the current government doing about all this?god only knows!

Bush declares independence for Kosovo??

Well this has all the hallmarks of the coldwar era.the russian president does not like something and immediately as a way of increasing pressure on the russians, president Bush tightens the screws on them by declaring that independence should be granted to Kosovo.but that may not happen right away seeing that Russia would be in no mind to oblige the americans on this issue and take this with the fact that Kosovo terrorists have killed many number of innocent russian civilians.
Whats more, this may soon turn out into a prestige issue for the russian president Vladimir Putin with the elections not that far away in Russia.the russian people have very strong feeling where Kosovo is concerned and Serbia would in no way let its emotional heartland break away from it irrespective of any united nations ordinance on it.all in all russia may just up the ante by supporting Iran in its nuclear quest as well as making sure that the oil pipeline project that Iran has with pakistan and India goes through at all costs.all of the above are just surmises but it is also to highlight the way that events may turn out shortly in the near future.President Bush declared in Albania that enough was enough and that the united nations should recognize Kosovo as an independent republic.that has indeed set the ball rolling and now we all have to wait an see what Russia does back in return.the 'cold war' it seems, ladies and gentlemen,is not over!
